Keep Our Paddles Turning
Hep us get the Pride back into top cruising condition
Our Current Course
We’ve had all hands on deck getting the boat in top shape for launch. The Pride was built on City Island and took its inaugural cruise in May of 1988. After over 30 years of service, it took its only year off and did not sail last year due to some aging that needed to be repaired. This was followed by public outcry demanding to know when the boat would be back in the water.
The Pride is an icon to City Island and to Harrisburg. It is 1 of 6 authentic paddlewheel boats in this country and the only one east of the Mississippi. Being an authentic paddlewheel means that complex hydraulics enable the boat’s paddles to both propel and steer the boat.

What’s on Deck
Like any boat, especially one that has been in service for so many years, the elements, weather, currents are known to produce wear and tear on the vessel’s structure and mechanical systems The Pride is unique, one of a kind, and parts had to be custom welded to fit in the specially designated spaces.
In addition to mechanical repairs we are taking the opportunity to update in the interior as well. Visitors this year will see a bright new look with fresh paint, polished brass, new chairs, carpet, and drapes.
Along each step of the way the U.S. Coast Guard inspected and approved repairs. These repairs have been expensive, and have been partially funded through grants but also through the generous donations of individuals.
These donations have kept our boat afloat and our paddles turning!
Our current and largest fundraising effort is our benefit concert on May 31 at the Forum in Harrisburg. This concert will feature talented artists from all different backgrounds and styles, promising a night to remember for everyone!
